As a testament to its dual-use versatility, our Velos V3 platform is complemented by a dedicated defense – government edition, the Velos V3 D-FEND.

Building on more than 10 years of reliable service and hundreds of units deployed worldwide, this defense variant emphasizes advanced modularity, redundant safety features, ruggedized performance, and the ability to operate in GPS-denied environments, all of which are attributes highly valued in demanding military or governmental missions.

Fully Redundant Twin Transmission Design

Unlike most UAV helicopters that are built with common hobby-grade parts, the Velos V3 D-FEND was designed from scratch with three core objectives:
Simplicity, Efficiency, Reliability.

Leveraging the same patented, innovative twin-transmission design as the Velos V3, it allows for mission continuation even in case of mission-critical failures. Therefore, the Velos V3 D-FEND ensures operational reliability under the most challenging and uncertain conditions.

More specifically, it is capable of tolerating a complete failure of critical components, including motor, ESC, belt, gears, bearings, main battery and servo, while still enabling a safe landing to protect both payload and surroundings under those circumstances. The system automatically isolates the faulty component without introducing additional drag to the operational part of the drivetrain. Furthermore, the key advantage of this configuration is that all critical components operate at only 50% of their maximum capacity, making the Velos V3 D-FEND a highly dependable platform for critical missions.

A mature UAV solution for government and defense needs

The defense edition of Velos V3 has been recognized as a leading example of a dual-use system at high-profile Defense Innovations events organized by NATO partners and, over the last decade, it has already demonstrated strong and reliable performance in government and military applications. Tactical applications include, but are not limited to, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, magnetic mine-detection payloads (STANAG-compliant), offshore surveillance missions, including deployment by the South Korean Coast Guard, proactive forest patrols and sensitive human organ transport in the U.S. These case studies underscore the ability of the Velos V3 D-FEND to meet stringent defense and governmental requirements with precision, resilience, and adaptability.

Customization and compatibility

Our UAV is using CubePilot OrangeCube by default and can be configured with Auterion SkyNode flight controller if needed. Based on open architecture (Orange cube or Auterion) enables quick integration of additional hardware or software so that new capabilities can be rapidly deployed across the fleet and managed by operators through the same UX/UI and basic workflows. Velos V3 D-FEND architecture also supports a variety of industry-leading data links that are ready for plug-and-play integration. From simple C2 operation to advanced encrypted mesh networks capable of streaming HD video together with flight data and sensor information in real-time, the possibilities are endless. Additionally, the GPS-denied navigation module allows the Velos V3 D-FEND to operate seamlessly in environments with limited or no signal reception.

Last but not least LTE, 5G and satellite module compatibility provides extended range and data failover capabilities ideal for BVLOS operations. We are offering various options at 850-900Mhz, 1.4Ghz, 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz bands. Our helicopter is controlled through a simple ground control station, which can be a laptop coupled with an RC unit or a unified rugged GCS solution, providing operators with an intuitive and effective means of managing the aircraft. The Velos V3 D-FEND on the default configuration is compatible with the Mission Planner and the UgCS flight control software from SPH Engineering. While the Velos V3 D-FEND has already shown strong capabilities in defense, ISR, and logistics missions, its potential extends far beyond these domains. Its robust design, long endurance, and modular architecture make it suitable for a wide range of public safety and humanitarian applications. For instance, it can carry thermal and high-resolution cameras to support search and rescue operations, enabling teams to assess disaster zones and locate survivors in difficult terrain. Its versatility also allows integration with various sensors, making it useful for environmental monitoring, border patrol, and firefighting support by providing aerial surveillance and real-time data to ground stations and teams.

Payload Over the Rotor (POR)

The Velos V3 D-FEND also provides a unique capability of carrying a Payload Over the Rotor (POR), allowing end-users to install payloads, antennas, sensors or a parachute above the main rotor system. This is also the ideal place for GNSS antennas for Lidar surveying. The POR is located on the center of gravity (CG) axis, so any payload integrated there does not affect the CG or other flight parameters.

Furthermore, the unobstructed 360º and sky views allow different configurations, such as a 360º panoramic view camera or a dual camera (one on the POR and the second one below the helicopter main body). This capability makes the Velos V3 D-FEND the ideal system to perform seamless ISR operations in high-difficulty areas.
