VELOS V-TWIN

i 3 Table Of Content

Velos Rotors has done it again. Our company is proud to present the Velos V-Twin, the latest addition to our UAV portfolio. The Velos V-Twin is a twin-rotor unmanned helicopter (MTOW 52 kg / 114.5 lbs) based on the traditional tandem rotorcraft concept, offering versatility and reliability for a wide range of applications.

The Velos V-Twin features two three-bladed rotors and a durable carbon fiber fuselage with both forward and aft canopy covers. It is equipped with a folding landing gear system and powered by four high-voltage lithium polymer battery packs (48-56V DC). The platform utilizes a patented twin transmission design that sets a new industry standard for redundancy, reliability, and safety.

Fully Redundant Twin Transmission Design

Unlike most UAV helicopters built from adapted hobby-grade components, the Velos V-Twin has been engineered from the ground up around three core principles: simplicity, efficiency, and reliability. Its architecture reflects Velos Rotors’ long-standing focus on safety-critical design and mission readiness in professional UAV operations.

At the heart of the platform lies the patented twin transmission system, which is a highly innovative drivetrain concept that sets the V-Twin apart in its class. The system is designed to tolerate a complete failure of critical components, including a motor, ESC, belt, gears, bearings, main battery, or servo, while still maintaining controlled flight and enabling a safe landing to protect both payload and surroundings. In the event of a failure, the drivetrain automatically isolates the affected component without introducing additional drag to the operational side of the system.

A key advantage of this configuration is that all critical components operate at only 50% of their maximum capacity under normal conditions. This load-sharing philosophy significantly reduces mechanical and electrical stress, enhancing durability and making the Velos V-Twin an exceptionally reliable and safety-focused unmanned helicopter for demanding missions.

Customization and compatibility

The Velos V-Twin is designed with an open and flexible architecture to support a wide range of mission requirements and system integrations. The platform is equipped with the CubePilot OrangeCube flight controller. This open architecture enables rapid integration of additional hardware and software, allowing new capabilities to be deployed across fleets while maintaining consistent UX/UI and operational workflows for operators.

The system also supports a variety of industry-leading data links with plug-and-play integration. From basic command-and-control (C2) operation to advanced encrypted mesh networks capable of streaming HD video, flight data, and sensor information in real time, the platform can be configured to match the communication requirements of each mission.

For extended operational range and redundancy, the Velos V-Twin is compatible with LTE, 5G, and satellite communication modules, providing additional connectivity and data failover capabilities, which are particularly valuable for BVLOS operations. Multiple frequency options are available, including 850-900 MHz, 1.4 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz bands.

The aircraft can be operated through a simple ground control station, either via a laptop paired with an RC unit or through a unified rugged GCS solution, offering an intuitive and efficient interface for flight management. In its standard configuration, the Velos V-Twin is compatible with Mission Planner and UgCS flight control software from SPH Engineering, allowing operators to seamlessly plan, monitor, and manage missions. The system can be further configured to meet specific operational requirements and payload integrations.

Extensive range of payload capabilities

VELOS V-TWIN PAYLOADS

The Velos V-Twin offers an extensive range of payload capabilities, from advanced sensor operations to critical cargo transportation. Designed with an even stronger focus on heavy-lift performance, the V-Twin is particularly well suited for demanding missions that require increased payload capacity and operational robustness. Its simple and practical payload rail system, with a length of 110 cm and M4 threaded mounting points every 40 mm, enables seamless integration of a wide variety of payloads or sensor packages that fit within the physical dimensions of the payload area.

The following examples highlight popular payload configurations that the platform performs exceptionally well. Thanks to its heavy-lift architecture, the Velos V-Twin can carry substantially heavier payloads within its MTOW limits, making it especially valuable for industrial, logistics, and mission-critical applications. For custom payload integrations or specialized configurations, our team is available to support and tailor the system to your specific operational requirements.

Payload Over the Rotor (POR)

The Velos V-Twin offers a unique double POR capability, enabling end users to integrate payloads, antennas, sensors, or a parachute module above either one of the two rotors. This configuration preserves precise balance and ensures that payloads installed in these locations do not negatively affect the CG or critical flight characteristics, as the CG of the aircraft is easily adjustable.

The elevated and completely unobstructed position provides full 360° lateral visibility together with optimal sky exposure, making it an ideal mounting point for GNSS antennas in LiDAR surveying applications. It also enables advanced configurations such as a 360° panoramic camera system or a dual-camera setup, with one unit mounted on the POR and a second positioned below the fuselage.

This distinctive capability makes the Velos V-Twin particularly suitable for detailed inspections in complex or confined environments, such as beneath bridges, within intricate structures, or in other high-difficulty operational areas as well as for demanding cinematography missions requiring unconventional viewing angles.
